Animated Indiana Jones update

With the news of Disney buying the rights to future Indiana Jones movies, I figured this would be a good time to show what I've been up to lately, regarding my Animated Indy project. Getting there, slowly, but steadily.

3JS Music Video

Here is a music video we made for a Dutch band called 3JS. It's the first project we finished as a spanking new animation collective called Frame Order. We had about 6 weeks from start to finish, so everything had to be produced in a very tight time frame. I painted about 50 unique backgrounds for this. On average I had no more than 2 to 3 hours per background, so the focus was mainly on effect rather than a tightly finished painting. The characters were designed specifically with the animation process in mind, trying to leave out as much detail as possible, while still getting across the high quality fairytale feeling the client was after. All animation was done in Anime Studio.

Here's my take on Red Riding Hood, which I prepared for the Masterclass on Animation Design I gave at KLIK! last november, together with Wouter Tulp. 

Klik! Amsterdam Animation Festival promo

Here is the official promo we made for Klik! Amsterdam, which takes place from 7 to 11 november in the new EYE film museum building in Amsterdam. All in all it took us about 4 weeks with a crew of 4 to complete it.Watch it in HD if you can!

'Kiekje' in cinema's soon!

Here is the poster and a still from our short film 'Kiekje' (Snapshot) we've been working on for the last couple of months and just finished. It will be shown in front of Madagascar 3 in Dutch cinema's nationwide.

Topps Galaxy 7 - basecard artwork

Here are two pieces I made for the upcoming Star Wars Galaxy 7 trading cards set from Topps. The Jabba piece is done with acrylics and colored pencil on MDF board, Yoda was done entirely in Photoshop.

For the upcoming Topps Star Wars Galaxy 7 trading cards set I've created 50 sketchcards as well as 2 basecards. I can't show the artwork for the basecards yet, but my sketchcards are approved, so here you go.

I'm trying out some new stuff and techniques I've been thinking about.

And what do we have here? The first piece of handdrawn animation I made in a long time! Could it be part of something bigger? Who knows?

Here's a short film I just finished with Joost Lieuwma en Lukas Krepel. Joost did the designs, Lukas flexed his animation muscles and I did the backgrounds and some of the animation.

Tulok update time

Here is a rough paste-together of the current state of the Tulok poster, with the logos and everything that I will add once the painting is done.

If only the 80's had been so kind. An animated Sword and Sorcery feature, not afraid to show buckets of blood and naked bodyparts. Mark my words, if I ever win the lottery, I promise to make this film. Untill that time, I'll have the poster.

The final piece will be painted with acrylics on MDF board. I'm working on this in my sparetime, so it will probably take a while before it's finished, but I've been having so much fun with this already. I can't wait for the weekend!
